English invented the iPod, Apple admits
London - IXI device, created in 1979, was invented by Kane Kramer, assumes manufacturer.Apple has finally admitted that an Englishman who left school at 15 years is "the inventor of the iPod," says the Daily Mail. In case the man is Kane Kramer, who allegedly invented the technology that drives players from Apple (and other manufacturers) 30 years ago, but saw no return on your investment.
Kramer's complaint became public when Apple cited their case in a lawsuit against Burst.com. Apple took Kramer to California to testify during the trial, and Kramer took his sketches to the case.
The unknown inventor has created a concept called the IXI in 1979. It was a digital music player the size of a credit card with a rectangular screen and a central menu button. The device would store only three and a half minutes of data on your chip.
The newspaper said Kramer succeeded in patenting his invention, but in 1988 did not have the 60,000 pounds needed to renew the patent in 120 countries and "the technology itself becomes public."
Although Kramer has no more complaints against Apple, he helped the company in its defense against Burst.com. "To be honest, I was happy to see that something I did was a huge success and changed the music industry, and this was recognized," he said.
Kramer now negotiating with Apple some sort of compensation for the copyright to their original designs, but so far only received payments for consulting services. He had to sell his house last year and move to a rented apartment with his wife and three children.
