Sending text messages while driving can be more dangerous than drunk driving, showed a new test of Car & Driver magazine.
Previous studies showed the effect in simulators, but the magazine put drivers in real cars for testing.
Two journalists of the magazine - Jordan Brown, 22, and Eddie Alterman, 37 - tried to stop as they read and then as typed text messages after a light illuminates on the dashboard. They also repeated the tests while intoxicated.
