Government fails to raise U.S. $ 4.9 billion with change in IR, see new table
The federal government will fail to raise U.S. $ 4.9 billion with changes in the Personal Income Tax, as the measures announced on Thursday to mitigate the effects of global crisis on the productive sector and the consumer.In a meeting with entrepreneurs in Brasilia, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said in addition to creating new rates-7.5% and 22.5% - Income Tax Individual, reducing the IOF (Tax on Financial Operations) for loans and exemptions from IPI (Excise Tax) for the automotive sector.
With the correction provided by law at 4.5%, the new table provides income tax exemption for those earning up to R $ 1,434; rate of 7.5% for those earning more than R $ 1,434 to R $ 2,150; of 15 % for those earning more than R $ 2,150 to R $ 2,866, 22.5% for those earning more than R $ 2,866 to R $ 3,582 and 27.5% for those earning more than R $ 3,582.
The decision to change the table of income tax is final (no period of validity) and will enter into force for an interim measure, from January 1.
There will also be reduced IOF (Tax on Financial Operations) to individuals, from 3% to 1.5% for the period that the government deems necessary. The cost of this measure, the government will be R $ 2.560 billion.
The government also reduced the IPI (Industrialized Products Tax) until March 31, 2009 for the automotive industry. The popular cars up to 1,000 cc (both ethanol and gasoline) will have zero rate (currently 7%), the 1,000 cc to 2,000 cc, petrol, will be reduced by 13% to 6.5%, and flex or alcohol of 11% to 5.5%. Cars above 2000 cc have no rate change.
